South Africa have always been a team that has produced top-quality cricketers. Moreover, they have a rich history in international cricket across all three formats. The Proteas have achieved significant success, courtesy of the world-class cricketers who made waves with their performances.
However, they never won an ODI or T20I World Cup. On the other hand, they won the inaugural edition of the ICC Champions Trophy in 1998; since then, they haven’t won an ICC title. In this article, let’s review the names of three South Africans with the most Man of the Match awards in international cricket.
1. Jacques Kallis
Jacques Kallis is widely regarded as one of the greatest all-rounders in the sport’s history. He had a remarkable international cricket career, and his contributions to both batting, bowling and fielding made him one of the most highly-rated cricketers in the world.
He scored over 10,000 runs in Tests and more than 11,000 runs in One-Day Internationals. Proteas’ cricketing legend has bagged 57 Man of the Match awards (23 in Tests, 32 in ODIs and 2 in T20Is).

2. AB de Villiers
AB de Villiers is widely acknowledged as one of the greatest batsmen and fielders in the history of the sport. He has also extended his contribution as a wicketkeeper for the national cricket team. On top of that, he was known for his versatility in all formats of the game.
He scored 8765 runs in the longest format of the game and 9577 runs in One-Day Internationals. The South African legend comes next on the list as he has bagged 39 Man of the Match awards (5 in Tests, 27 in ODIs and 7 in T20Is).
3. Herschelle Gibbs
Herschelle Gibbs was one of the linchpins of a South African batting attack during the heydays of his cricketing career. The former right-handed batsman was known for his aggressive and attacking approach.
He scored more than 6000 runs in Tests and more than 8000 runs in One Day Internationals. Gibbs comes third on the list as he bagged 28 Man of the Match awards (6 in Tests and 22 in ODIs).
