Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar made a bold prediction for the upcoming edition of the ICC ODI World Cup and he believes that Team India are the favourites to win the title this time around. Team India last won the prestigious title in the ICC ODI World Cup 2011 by defeating Sri Lanka in the final.
Since then, they failed to make a bid for the third title but have a great opportunity to go all the way and win the accolade. Team India will begin their World Cup 2023 journey against the Australian cricket team on October 8 (Friday). The highly engaging fixture is certain to keep the fans on the edge of their seats.
The game will be staged at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai and after that, India will play against their arch-rivals, Pakistan cricket team at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Meanwhile, the Indian commentator, Sunil Gavaskar echoed that the India vs Pakistan game is as important as winning the ICC ODI World Cup tournament. Pakistan cricket team returned to India after a big gap of seven years since they played the 2016 edition of the T20 World Cup.
Since 2012, both teams have been meeting each other in the Asia Cup and the ICC events owing to strained relations between the nations. The senior commentator, while speaking in the India Today Conclave, added that India are definitely the favourites for the World Cup and that there is no doubt about that.
“We have to win the World Cup but this match is important. In terms of expectations, if you ask the common man, he would say you have to win against Pakistan but we also have a World Cup to win. We are definitely favourites, no question about that,” Sunil Gavaskar added in a statement.
