Australia’s all-rounder Glenn Maxwell scripted history as he became the fastest batsman to have scored a century in World Cup history. The ferocious all-rounder who is known for scoring runs at a rate of knots spared no mercy as he smashed the Netherlands’ bowlers at will in the final stages of the overs.
As it turned out, he gained a great deal of confidence from his start and ended up inflicting damage on the bowling team. In the process, he ended up breaking Aiden Markram’s record of 49-ball century against Sri Lanka as he achieved the landmark in just 40 balls against Netherlands at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

His imperious innings steered the Australian cricket team to 399/8 in their allotted quota of 50 overs. Maxwell ended up scoring 104 off 44 balls where he built his innings with the help of 9 fours and 8 sixes at a strike rate of 240.91. On the contrary, the Netherlands failed to put up a fight in the run-chase as they were bowled out for 90.
Australia won the game by a massive margin of 309 runs against the Netherlands. Glenn Maxwell who put on a spectacular show with the bat was named the Player of the Match. At the post-match presentation, he spoke about giving the team a good platform towards the end.
“I was just trying to give ourselves a good platform at the end. You can certainly cash in on this ground with bat and it seams under lights. Nice to get some rhythm finally in the tournament. Huge confidence booster. Some doubts do creep in when you are consistently not making runs. Hopefully, I can ride forward from this. Pretty much the perfect game with bat and ball for us. Three wins now and certainly starting to get that momentum as a team,” Glenn Maxwell said at the post-match presentation.
