Pakistan cricket team led by Babar Azam hit the rock-bottom in the team’s World Cup history. It is the first time in their cricketing venture that they lost four games in a row, something which the Pakistani fans didn’t expect at all. Pakistan started their World Cup campaign with consecutive wins over the Netherlands and Sri Lanka.
However, they were unable to resist Team India’s force in the highly-anticipated fixture. Ever since their defeat to India, they ended up losing to Australia, Afghanistan and South Africa. Pakistan captain Babar Azam was literally heartbroken after the team’s humiliating loss to Afghanistan as the latter won the game by 8 wickets.
Recently, Pakistan lost to South Africa at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai and it was a game that could have gone either way as both teams were looking to clinch the thriller. In the end, South Africa had the last laugh in the battle as they won the game by 1 wicket in a closely fought contest.
We will try our best in the next 3 matches: Babar Azam
Batting first, Pakistan put up a decent total on the board with 270 runs, courtesy of Babar Azam and Saud Shakeel’s half-centuries. In reply, South Africa had hiccups in the run-chase when they started losing wickets in the latter stages of the game. Aiden Markram top-scored with 91.
In the end, Keshav Maharaj batted quite sensibly as he guided the team home in a nerve-wracking encounter. At the post-match presentation, Babar Azam said that they would try their maximum best in the next three matches.
“We are very close, we did not finish well. Very disappointing for the whole team. We fought back very well. In the batting, we were 10-15 short. The fast bowlers and spinners fought well but unfortunately, it was not to be. It is part of the game, in DRS it is part of the game. Had he given it out, it would have favoured us. We have an opportunity to win this and stay in the race but not to be. We will try our best in the next 3 matches put our efforts and play for Pakistan. Let’s see where we will stand after that,” said Babar Azam after the match.
