Teens are competing with each other to secure their place in the playoffs of IPL 2024, as the pressure is rising and the stakes are higher. This can be clearly seen by that time teens are taking to complete their overs. Over rate offense is becoming normal, like sixes in T20 matches. In the IPL 20-24 match between the Lucknow Super Giants and Chennai Super Kings at the Ekana Stadium on Friday, once again an overrated offense was committed. This was the first time both of these teams committed offense in the ongoing season of the IPL.
Both Lucknow Super Giants and Chennai Super Kings were found guilty of maintaining a slow over rate, and as a result, the captains of both teams, KL Rahul and Ruturaj Gaikwad, were punished by the Board of Control for cricket in India.
In a statement, BCCI said, “The captain of Lucknow Super Giants, KL Rahul, has been fined after his team maintained a low over rate during match 34 of the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League against Chennai Super Kings at the Bharat Ratna Sri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana cricket stadium in Lucknow. This was the first offense of the Lucknow Super Giants of this season under the IPL code of conduct relating to the minimal over rate offenses. KL Rahul has to pay fine of Rs 12 lakh.
It is hard to tell how much this fine is going to pinch Rahul because it comes some time later after he took the player of the match award at home as he guided his team to a victory of 8 wickets against Chennai Super Kings. The captain of LSG KL Rahul scored 82 runs in 53 balls and stitched the highest opening partnership of this season of IPL which is of 134 runs with the player Quinton de Kock from South Africa who scored 54 runs in 43 balls as Lucknow Super Giants reached the target of 177 runs in 19 overs with 8 wickets to spare.
At the same time, the captain of the Chennai Super Kings, Ruturaj Gaikwad, got the news of being fined by BCCI for the slow over rate offense. He got fined Rs 12 lakh, but it is more likely to have hurt him more as his team lost the match and his bat was silent. Gaikwad scored only 17 runs in 33 balls.
