IPL franchise Lucknow Super Joints were faced with an embarrassing 10-wicket defeat at the hands of Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Wednesday. The captain of Lucknow Supergiants, KL Rahul, has been despairingly muted after that tough loss against the Orange Army. The defeat of Lucknow left their owner, Sanjiv Goenka, devastated, who was lashing out at captain Rahul for the average performance of the team.
However, the behavior of Goenka towards Rahul caught him under a layer of criticism as the fans slammed him for having schooled Rahul publicly. On the other hand, the social media handle of Lucknow SuperJoints has been dormant after the team’s defeat against Sunrisers, posting only one heartfelt message of a promised comeback.
In the middle of the social media silence, the right-hand bowler of the Super Giants, Naveen ul Haq, came out in support of KL Rahul by posting a heartwarming post featuring his picture with the captain on Instagram, only putting a heart emoji in the caption and captioning the comments on the post. The timing of the post does suggest that his post was a gesture of support towards Rahul following the controversy.
After facing the defeat, KL Rahul said that he was at a loss for words. He also praised the batting skills of the openers of Sunrisers Hyderabad, Travis Head, and Abhishek Sharma, who made a mockery of the run chase.
As Rahul said, “I am at a loss for words because we have watched that kind of batting only on TV. But this is unreal batting, and everything looked to be in the middle of the bat. Kudos to their skills. They have a really hard time with their six hitting skills. They did not give us a chance to know what the pitch played in their second inning. It was hard to stop them as they were playing brilliantly from ball one.”
Rahul also believed that the team was 40 to 50 runs short after losing early wickets in the power play; he also backed Ayush Badoni and Nicholas Pooran for holding the sport in hard situations.
