Surya kumar Yadav has been in blazing form of late and the kind of gentry that he has flashed in the shortest format of the game has been absolutely unparalleled. From those ginormous and unorthodox shuffles in the surface where he would bring out the swashbuckling strikes and tons, to dominating the finest of the opposition, SKY has established himself as an untenable force in the heart of the Indian batting.
However, when it comes to the shorter formats, somehow SKY has been a bit off his element and no matter the desperation that he has managed to bring to the front, he hasn’t been unable to sustain his momentum. The Indian fans have already started dishing out their cruel verdict where the messiah of India in T20s is slowly turning out to be a villain in ODIs.
Talking to BCCI, SKY said, “It is fun. It feels really great. Whenever you go to a different city, you are getting that recognition. At the same time, you can forget what you have been doing before achieving all this and how you have reached till here. It’s a little difficult sometimes, but I just try and remain the same.”
He further added, “I think I try and play situations, whatever situation I bat in. If I am batting at 4, 5 or 6, I look at the situation – what the team demands at the moment. Whatever the team demands, I just go through the motions.”
With Shreyas Iyer ruled out of the New Zealand series, SKY may be given a few more opportunities to try and bring out the best, a spectacle that would drive Indian fans to absolute glee. However, the kind of opposition New Zealand is, there is very little room for error that the Men in Blue will be affording.
