India is currently engaged in a high-voltage encounter with New Zealand in the third ODI of the series. With the fray already sealed emphatically, the Men in Blue will be hopeful of inflicting whitewash upon their counterparts that would do them a world of good going forward in a year that has so much cricket coming up.
Now there are a few questions about how exactly is India going to line up Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma considering the hefty workload that they are already taking. India’s head coach, Rahul Dravid had an answer for the same. The Indian preceptor believes that the duo has done a pretty decent job in the last couple of series and now it shouldn’t be surprising if they are being rested for a while.
Talking in a media interaction for the ongoing series between India and New Zealand, Rahul Dravid shed some light on what can be the possible posterity for the experienced duo of Rohit and Virat. He also addressed another burning debate at the moment that talks about India’s split captaincy. The Indian coach said, “Not that I am aware of (India adopting split captaincy). That’s a question you need to ask the selectors but as of now, I don’t think so.”
Highlighting the playing frequency of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, Rahul said, “There are certain priorities we need to give to certain white-ball tournaments. So the priority after last year’s T20 World Cup has been these six games and Virat has played all these six games and he will get a bit of a break along with Rohit.”
Throwing in some context to what Rohit said about his T20I future, the Indian skipper’s words were, “For us, obviously, from the last semi-final (in the T20 World Cup) that we played against England, only 3-4 boys are playing in the XI (against Sri Lanka). We are slightly in a different stage of looking at the next cycle of T20, so ours is a slightly younger team and for us to play against the quality of Sri Lanka is a fantastic experience. The good thing is that a lot of focus is on the ODI World Cup and World Test Championship, so the T20s give us the opportunity to try out these guys.”
