As India gears up to take on New Zealand in the shortest format of the game, a name that again takes the fore and most importantly in a terrorizing avatar is that of Suryakumar Yadav who has been in some terrific form with the bat ever since his arrival in 2022 and 2023 has already witnessed another knock of terrific consequence as he garnered his third T20I century.
The way SKY has enforced himself upon oppositions has been an act of art and the kind of rampage that he continues to stitch with every passing game is slowly making him one of the biggest stroke players in the Indian echelons. Former Indian cricketer, Suresh Raina has been in utter awe of the hard-hitter and believes that the Men in Blue should try and incorporate him in all formats of the game, considering the wide array of strokes that he has at his disposal.
Being ennobled with the honour of the ICC T20I Cricketer of the Year in 2022 for his heroic exploits, earlier on Wednesday, Raina highlighted that why Surya slots in perfectly in the ranks of Indian cricket across all formats of the game.
In an interaction with Akash Chopra on Viacom18 Sports, Raina said, “The way he is performing, I think he should play in all three formats and without him, all three formats should not even exist. The way he performed, the way he shows intent, the way he plans different shots, he also plays fearlessly and knows how to use the dimension of the ground.”
He further added that why SKY can also be a good fit for the Test team, stating, “He is a Mumbai player, and he knows how to play red-ball cricket. I think he has a great chance – playing Test cricket will get him another establishment in ODIs and some stability as well. He will score multiple 100s and then 200s.”
As India gears up for the T20I series against New Zealand, the fans will be hopeful of Suryakumar Yadav to bring forth the lights and sound for the Indian innings as the Men in Blue hope to prise out a significant result after a whitewash of the Kiwis in ODIs.
