Ajinkya Rahane was compelled into the CSK set-up after Ben Stokes had to be dropped with a finger injury while Moeen Ali was also sidelined because he was unwell. Chasing a mammoth total of 158 runs at the Wankhede Stadium, Rahane hammered 61 from just 27 balls as he clobbered 7 fours and 3 sixes.

The Indian batter hasn’t been one of the most prolific batters in the shortest format of the game but the way he blew away the Mumbai Indians, was nothing short of a cricketing spectacle. Former Indian head coach, Ravi Shastri, who worked very closely with the Indians was absolutely delighted at the kind of performance that was put up by the erstwhile Indian vice-captain who conquered the Australians in the latter’s backyard.

Shastri told ESPNCricinfo, “I loved Ajinkya Rahane’s innings. He was our captain in Australia, where I saw one of the greatest overseas hundreds by an Indian player. That will go right up with the very best, simply because of where India was at the start of the innings. He had taken over as captain, we were 36 all-out. On Boxing Day , to play like that, was fantastic.”
