The Delhi Capitals has been all over the place in the ongoing edition of the IPL 2023. Despite a couple of wins in the ongoing edition of the tournament, they have struggled to come to terms with their earlier heydays in the absence of Rishabh Pant. David Warner has been in the thick of things but the way he has batted in the tournament, that would scare even the biggest hardliners of Test cricket.
Another opener for Delhi Capitals, Prithvi Shaw has been woeful to say the least, and all the promise that they have managed to heap on that young man before the tournament started has fizzled away into oblivion. In fact, such has been the woe of the hard-hitter that he has struggled to even get off the leash and get those double figures coming in.

The substitute for Prithvi Shaw, Phil Salt, wasn’t great either in the last game. However, Ponting has suggested that in all likelihood, the Delhi opener will probably have to warm the benches for a much longer duration. With the runs barely coming by and with a boatload of task being left at the end for Axar Patel to be done, it is getting a lot more nightmarish for the Delhi Capitals batting unit. Thanks to their bowlers, that they managed to secure a couple of victories.
Ponting launched a full-blown tirade against Prithvi Shaw, questioning his numbers that has followed on the back of one of the most barren patches for any cricketer in the antiquity of the tournament. The former Australian captain didn’t hold back his punches, particularly regarding the explosive opener whose bullets have started drying up and his batting technique has been a massive headache for his entire team.

Punter said, “I think it’s 13 games (considering IPL 2022 as well) since Prithvi has made a 50 opening the batting for the Delhi Capitals. There are a lot of other players at the top of the order with other teams that are playing a whole lot better than Prithvi. Prithvi at his absolute best… we know he’s a match winner. That’s one of the reasons that he’s a retained player because we know if he bats a certain amount of balls, we win about 95% of the games. But so far this season, he hasn’t been able to produce.”
