There are just a few weeks left until India and Australia square off in the final of the World Test Championship 2023 to determine who will become the second World Champions in the longest version of the game. Beginning on June 7 in London’s Oval, you can watch these two squads battle it out. As the summit match approaches, former Australian captain Ricky Ponting has voiced his hope for a competitive and decisive match.
Ponting claimed that the cricketing community doesn’t want a tie and that the two captains should play aggressive cricket to ensure a winner. The great Australian skipper said that the two leaders should even risk losing the game in order to give their side a chance to win it for the fans.
After losing to New Zealand in the first World Test Championship final, India will be competing in the tournament again. With a total of 58.80 points, the team captained by Rohit Sharma came in second place in the WTC standings.

Australia, on the other hand, will be participating in their first WTC final after finishing with the highest points percentage (66.67). With a points percentage of 69.2, they came in third, only 0.2 points behind New Zealand, who went on to play in the first final that year (2021).
Due to injuries to numerous key players, Australia seems to have the upper hand in preparations for the match against India. In contrast, Australia doesn’t have to worry about any key players missing the major game due to injuries. Many of its stars aren’t even participating in the current IPL 2023.
“Oh, look. I believe that the cricket-loving people of the globe deserve to see a really spectacular Test match that ends in a decisive manner. You know, we really don’t want this game to end in a tie. Let’s play some excellent, hard, aggressive Test cricket, I’d tell both captains. And let’s just think about it, make sure there’s a result in the end,” Ponting remarked at a Star Sports event.
He continued, “I think that’s what everyone who loves the test match wants to see, right? “If it means that you’re at, if it means that you’ve got to put you or your team on the line to, you know, to potentially lose the game, you give yourself a chance to win the game doing it.”
