Australia opener David Warner trolled English fan group the Barmy Army for the second time in a week following England’s defeat in the FIFA Women’s World Cup final against Spain on Sunday. Before the match, the Barmy Army had tweeted asking David Warner for his thoughts on the game. He was told he had “a lot to say” in England’s semi-final against Australia on 16 August. The Australian team lost the game by a margin of 3–1.
Warner took the opportunity to troll him after the final and said:
“Sorry @TheBarmyArmy I didn’t see this post???? what was the score?”
Before the semi-final, Warner had told Australian footballers to “keep an eye” in case the English players asked for a change of match ball. The joke was made in the wake of the final day of the fifth Ashes 2023 Test where England requested a change of ball in the 37th over. The replaced ball spins significantly more than the old ball, thanks to a visibly brighter surface and more pronounced seams.
Australia lost the match immediately after being 137/0, and the five-match series ended 2–2.

“I Don’t Think You Can Replace David Warner With The Same Type Of Player” – Ian Chappell
Before the Ashes, the left-handed batsman announced that he would like to retire after Australia’s Test series against Pakistan in January 2024. However, David Warner’s average of 28.50 and his inability to convert his starts in five Tests raised questions about his potential replacement for summer.
Recently, former Australia captain Ian Chappell asked the national selectors to tread carefully as a similar option may not be readily available.
“The ideal thing is if you can do it gradually, and I think the selectors will have to keep that in mind,” Chappell told Channel 8. “I don’t think you can replace David Warner with an identical type of player because not many have got the ability or the courage to play the way he did.”
Ian Chappell rejected Cameron Bancroft and Marcus Harris as replacements and felt he was “short-changed” when Matt Renshaw was tried in that position.
