In the Indian Premier League, Gautam Gambhir has been a pillar for the Kolkata Knight Riders. Gambhir achieved the feat twice, in 2012 and 2014. Gambhir arrived at the Kolkata Knight Riders on the backdrop of Saurabh Ganguly’s departure, which created quite a controversy among the fans of the franchise. However, Gambhir quickly won over the fanbase with his consistent performance and leadership qualities, which led them to win the title twice under his captaincy.
Ahead of the 2018 season, Gambhir left the team to return to the Delhi Capitals, eventually retiring from the league in the same season. However, the love for Gautam Gambhir never faded, and relentless calls have been made from the fans to bring the title-winning star back to the franchise. Earlier this year, the requests were eventually answered when Gambhir made a blockbuster return to Kolkata as the mentor of the franchise following his 2-year stint in the same role with Lucknow Supergiants.
This season, the Kolkata Knight Riders have been brilliant, as they are resting comfortably at the top of the table with 16 points to their name and almost assured of a place in the playoff berth. During a KKR event, Gautam Gambhir received a heartwarming message from one of the fans, who could not suppress his emotions as he pleaded with the former captain of the team to never leave the franchise ever again.
A fan said, “I am the biggest fan of Gautam Gambhir. I just want to say, aap Hume chod kar aur mat jaaiye. We can’t tell you how hurt we were when you left us. I want to dedicate a Bengali song to Gautam. You are my heart. We keep you in our hearts. Please never leave us. Don’t hurt us. Please, sir, please.”
