The former player of Royal Challengers Bangalore, AB de Villiers, has criticized the decision of the franchise to release Chahal. This criticism comes after the historical achievement of Chahal of becoming the first bowler to reach the IPL wickets mark of 200, which he reached when he took the wicket of Mohammad Nabi earlier this week in their match against the Mumbai Indians.
De Villiers, who shared the dressing room with Chahal during their time at the Royal Challengers Bangalore, has opened up about the heartbreaking moment when the spinner left the franchise.
In a recent YouTube video, the South African great talks about the time when Chahal was bought by the Rajasthan Royals during the auction of the Indian Premier League, leaving RCB after 8 seasons.
De Villiers also admitted that it was a very tough moment for him, as he had developed a close relationship with Chahal and had seen him grow as a player.

On his official YouTube channel, De Villiers said, “double hundred for Yuzi.” With the ball in hand in the Indian Premier League, he is the first guy to reach 200 wickets, and the most amazing thing about this is that it happens only in 152 innings. RCB let him go. I have mentioned this before. It was also a heartbreaking moment when he left RCB; he was part of the furniture there and also the best bowler. It was quite surprising and crazy that he got left out of that team.
Chahal was an important member of the Royal Challengers Bangalore and had formed a strong bond with South African player de Villiers and the premium batsman of the Indian Cricket Team, Virat Kohli, both on and off the field.
Despite the fact that Chahal has not been part of the franchise for over two seasons, he still continues to be the leading wicket taker of the team. He played 130 matches for Royal Challengers Bangalore from 2014 to 2021 and took 139 wickets at an amazing economy rate of 7.58.
The absence of Chahal left a significant void in the team, as in this season their bowling unit came under significant scrutiny as the team has lost 7 out of 8 matches in the season, and currently they are sitting at the bottom of the table.
