The captain of the Rajasthan Royals, Sanju Samson, had a heartwarming reaction on his official social media account as he shared an emotional message after his selection in the T20 World Cup squad of team India. The wicket keeper and batsman was chosen alongside Rishabh Pant for the mega event, which is going to take place in June. Samson has been in sublime form in the Indian Premier League season 2024 and is currently the highest scorer for the Rajasthan Royals.
While expressing his happiness over his selection. Sanju took to Instagram and posted a heartbeat statement in Malayalam saying, ‘Viyarpu thuniyitta kuppayam,” which means a shirt is stitched of sweat and hard work. This post shows the amount of hard work and passion he had poured into this moment.
Currently, Sanju Samson has scored 385 runs in nine matches, which consists of four half centuries in the Indian Premier League season 2024. He had been in a three-way battle for a place in the squad alongside Pant and KL Rahul.
Since making his debut in T20 International cricket against Zimbabwe in the year 2015, Samsung has made scattered appearances because of the presence of consistent keeper and batsman like MS Dhoni and Rishabh Pant in the team. Following the near-fatal car accident back in December 2022, Samsung made it back to the white balls with particularly consistent appearances in T20 cricket.
Although the record of Sanju is not that good in the shortest format as in 25 matches he has scored only 374 runs at an average of 18.70 which consist of only one half century. But his current performance in the Indian Premier League season 2024, where the team led by Sanju is at the top of the table, played an important role in his selection.
On the other side, the captain of Lucknow Supergiants, Kl Rahul, is the 4th highest run scorer of the tournament with 406 runs in 10 matches at an average of 40.60 with a strike rate of 142.95 with 3 half centuries. Whereas Rishabh Pant follows the former in fifth place with 398 runs at an average of 44.92 and a strike rate of 150 8.56 with 3 half centuries.
