The batsman of the Indian Cricket Team, Shreyas Iyer, had been among the headlines for both on and off-the-field reasons for the past month. He dropped from the Indian team following the second test match in Visakhapatnam against the England cricket team in February without any explanation. After this, he was removed from the BCCI Central contract. Shreyas complained of back pain after the second test match against England, but the NCA called him fit.
After his exclusion from the annual contract list of BCCI, Iyer adhered to the diktat of BCCI over the participation of players in the Ranji trophy and joined the squad of Mumbai in the domestic first-class tournament. He remained part of the playing 11 as Mumbai defeated Vidarbha in the finals.
However, now a report states that once again, Shreyas has developed a back issue, and because of this, he could even miss the start of the Indian Premier League season 2024 matches. Because of this, he could even miss the start of the Indian Premier League season 2024 matches for his franchise, Kolkata Knight Riders. If this report is true, then the question arises: Was the Indian batter forced to make a return to competitive action in the Ranji trophy or not?
The newspaper report further states that Iyer’s back injury resurfaced during his amazing knock of 95 runs in the second innings after the Ranji trophy final. Throughout his knock of 111, he had to stop two times to get treatment from the physiotherapist in Mumbai for the back spasm.
However, on the 4th day of the match, he could not take the field for the whole day. The reports also claim that Iyer underwent a scan of his back at a hospital, indicating the surety of his injury. He is also raising concerns about his future participation in the tournament.
It further added that Iyer had talked about his issues relating to his back to the management of the Indian Cricket Team during the series against England as well.
Shreyas was forced to miss the entire season of the Indian Premier League last year because of his back injury. After this, he underwent back surgery in April and was subsequently ruled out of the finals of the World Test Championship against Australia.
After spending so many months on the sidelines in rehab and recovery, the 29-year-old batsman made a return to the national team in the Asia Cup and eventually took part in the 2023 World Cup as well. Iyer was the third-highest run scorer for team India in the tournament, with 530 runs in 11 matches.
