The middle-order batter of the Indian Cricket Team, Shreyas Iyer, has been declared fit after he found some discomfort in his back during the Ranji Trophy final against Vidarbha. In the final of the Ranji Trophy, Iyer missed out on a century in the second innings and didn’t take the field on the last two days of the match. On Saturday, the stylish batsman of the Indian Cricket Team joined the Kolkata Knight Riders camp and took part in an intra-squad T20 match on Sunday.
According to the news report, the skipper of KKR met a spine specialist in Mumbai and then the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore. The doctor declared him fit to play but advised him to be cautious about stretching his leg while defending the ball.
A source said that Shreyas is fit to play after a specialist spine doctor in Mumbai advised him not to stretch his leg too forward while defending the ball. He has also joined the IPL franchise KKR, and he can play.
Regarding his discomfort in the back, Iyer has been under the scanners, which have erupted on several occasions in recent times. During the Border-Gavaskar Trophy last year, he first complained of a back injury, underwent surgery, and missed the IPL 2022.

In the Asia Cup 2023, he returned to the Indian team and found his rhythm soon. He scored 530 runs in the Campaign, and the hosts finished as the runners-up. During the Test series against England, the 29-year-old felt discomfort again. After the Vizag Test match against England, He was ruled out of India’s squad.
After getting dropped from the Test squad of team India, Iyer ignored BCCI’s order to play in the Ranji Trophy quarterfinals. Shreyas denied it by complaining of back stiffness despite the NCA declaring that he was fit. After that, he had to face some consequences as the BCCI removed him from the annual central contract list. Iyer, an integral part of India’s ODI WC team, became an outcast in about six months.
The star batter missed the last season of IPL due to a back injury, and his recent fitness concerns have put his IPL 2024 campaign under the scanners. However, the reported clearance from the doctor would be a significant relief not only for him but also for the franchise.
In his absence, the Kolkata-based franchise was led by Nitish Rane in the last season, and they finished fifth on the points table. The former captain of Kolkata Knight Riders Gautam Gambhir has also been brought back into the team as a mentor to guide Iyer-led KKR to bring back the glory days of the franchise. At the Eden Gardens on March 23, KKR will open their Campaign in the 2024 IPL against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
