The latest edition of the IPL auction saw some massive buys despite being a mini-auction, especially considering the big names of Sam Curran, Cameron Green and Ben Stokes heading into the auction. Out of all the big splashes, one of the finest splurges happened on T20 World Cup winning English all-rounder, Ben Stokes. Chennai Super Kings brought him for a staggering INR 16.25 crore, adding a valuable moniker to their ranks, who becomes the automatic pick to take over the mantle from MS Dhoni who is already staring at a twilight in his IPL career.
However, the most riveting factor after Ben Stokes got selected was tweeting an image that won over the hearts of the Chennai fans in response to the Yellow Army going for the hard-hitting English all-rounder. Stokes was a part of the prized second set that featured the likes of Sam Curran and Cameron Green, thereby already warranting some heavy splurging in and around him.
Chennai first wanted to acquire the services of Sam Curran and the bidding went from strength to strength with Punjab Kings hellbent on adding the services of the English speedster. However, after losing out Curran, the Yellow Army knew where they exactly had to look for in order take on a like-for-like all-rounder and the needle straightaway pointed at the big name of Ben Stokes.
Moments after the big-money move, Ben Stokes took to Twitter and posted a picture that only had a daub of yellow painted onto it, showcasing his admiration for his new home in the IPL. Chennai Super Kings ensured that they are replying to big man quoting, “Yellove all!”
Chris Gayle opened up on the inclusion of Ben Stokes to the mighty likes of Chennai Super Kings, expressing that this is going to be a massive move for the Yellow Army. Gayle said, “They are two fantastic minds in the dressing room, MSD and Ben Stokes. But I think Stokes will sit back and respect MSD and let him do his thing. The young players will also get to learn a lot from Stokes. It’s good to have him and he still has the likes of DJ Bravo in the CSK ranks.”
