Having sealed the series with a match to spare, India may opt to make a few shuffles in their echelons trying to spot new avenues of attack ahead of the upcoming World Cup. In India’s triumphant outing against Sri Lanka, the second contest was an easy one for the batters with the cream of the batting unit comprising Rohit, Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli returning for cheap.
However, Rohit Sharma still seemed to be in decent flow until his dismissal, starting off from where he left in the opening ODI and seeing at his stance and his range of shots, there is a belief that the intimidating version of Rohit that we are used to is already knocking on the corner and it is just a matter of time before the Indian captain explodes in all his blazing colours.
Not only has Rohit been phenomenal with the bat but his captaincy has been equally brilliant and hence fans expect that both and he and Dravid will be making some important changes to the playing XI in order to assess their bench strength too.
Former Sri Lankan captain, Dinesh Chandimal opened up at length while speaking to PTI, urging India to retain the likes of a few big names that can change the shape of this Men in Blue squad. Chandimal said, “Looking at this Indian team, it shows how much strength is there in the bench. I still feel Surya can play in the middle order in this Indian team.”
Heaping praises on Suryakumar’s batting flair, Chandimal further continued, “He is different to other batters. You need a guy like him in the middle-order. He can change the game by just scoring 30 to 50 runs. Opposition team can be frustrated with the speed at which he scores. I still feel he should play in ODIs.”
India will be battling the might of Sri Lanka for the final ODI, hoping to secure a whitewash while the visitors to desperate to salvage a win from the series.
