Exactly 3 months and 4 days after being removed from the role of captaincy of the Mumbai Indians, Rohit Sharma returned to the franchise camp for the preparation for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League 2024. The five-time Champions named Hardik Pandya, whom they had traded from the Gujarat Titans as their new captain, were criticized a lot by fans of the franchise and veteran cricketers who were making it the point of discussion in the coming up tournament. However, keeping all the outside noise on one side, Rohit Sharma returned to the franchise and is ready for the 17th season of the Indian Premier League, even though he announced it through a caption-less post.
It was midway through the 2013 season when Rohit Sharma was handed over the captaincy duty after the legend of Australia Ricky Ponting stepped down from this role following a poor run of form with the bat. Rohit led MI till 2023 between which the franchise won the title five times.
Earlier last month, the coach of the Mumbai Indians, Mark Boucher, explained that it was purely a cricket decision to make Hardik Pandya the new captain of the Mumbai Indians violet team and that there was no easy way to remove captain Rohit Sharma from the role of captaincy.

Boucher said on the Smash Sports podcast that, although Rohit Sharma was not doing well in the past few seasons as a batsman, he was amazing as a captain. We are just trying to take pressure off Rohit Sharma so that we get the best results. We want to see Rohit playing with a smile on his face and spending some time with his beautiful family, and we think there is no easy way to do it.”
This clip of Boucher was shared on social media, and it got a response from the wife of the farmer skipper of Mumbai Indians, Ritika Sajdeh. She dismissed it, saying “so many things are wrong with this,” which started a fresh controversy.
However, On Tuesday keeping all the debates aside, former skipper of Mumbai Indians Rohit returned to the camp to start preparing for the upcoming season of the IPL, which will be followed by the T20 World Cup in the month of June.
Rohit posted a tweet without a caption from his training session, which included a black and white image of him. Mumbai also shared a video of Rohit Sharma’s net session, in which he looked comfortable smashing the ball all around the ground.
