IPL 2023: When it comes to his cricketing career, MS Dhoni has a history of making surprising choices, such as his retirement from Test cricket and his retirement from international cricket. Therefore, supporters are wondering whether this will be their last opportunity to witness Dhoni play for the Chennai Super Kings. This is said to be one reason why the 41-year-old has been so popular with fans all through IPL 2023.
Kevin Pietersen, a former English cricketer, has said that he would be “really surprised” if Dhoni did not play in the forthcoming editions of the Indian Premier League, citing this fact. He further justified his opinion by arguing that Dhoni would benefit from the impact player rule, which will let him participate in more IPL seasons.
Even more, fuel has been added to the speculation of the famous batter’s retirement after CSK’s last home game, in which the whole squad, including Dhoni, took a lap of honour. The former English cricketer agreed that the former Indian cricketer had made the squad more formidable with his leadership and wicketkeeping. The CSK captain should just assume the position of a batsman facing a few deliveries while causing mayhem.

“On Sunday, I saw Dhoni’s lap of honour and was blown away by how packed the stadium remained the whole time. I find it very unlikely that this is his last season. The impact player rule, which allows him to keep for 20 overs and bat wherever he wants to bat, is a huge boon to him,” as Pietersen noted in his Betway column.
“He’ll be able to heal his knee and prepare for next season over the course of eight to nine months of off-time. Everybody in the nation, including myself, would want to see Dhoni play another season,” he added.
MS Dhoni has been seen hobbling on the pitch on several occasions, and there have even been reports of the cricketer placing an ice pack on his knees. And according to CSK coach Stephen Fleming, the CSK captain has been suffering from a knee issue.
