Sachin Tendulkar has always been a benchmark whenever the cricketing discussion has shifted to the art of batting. Despite a few icons of batting coming close to the big man from India, yet, there were still miles that were never fathomed. Talking about the ones who tried their best to come close to Sachin have been the big names of Virat Kohli, Alastair Cook and Joe Root.
However, the numbers are so overwhelmingly staggering that no matter how close these aforementioned have managed to come within the great of Indian batting, it has all felt like a shot in the dark.
Amongst the ones active who can still eye for the ginormous records that are being held by Sachin at the moment, one of them is former English Test captain, Joe Root who have been in sensational form in Test cricket in the last couple of years, will vbe eyeing Sachin’s 15,921 runs in Tests while Virat still has the hope of coming close to Sachin’s godly stat of 100 international centuries.
Keeping aside the rivalry, English batter, Joe Root opened up on the sheer magnitude of heights that has been achieved by the icon. Talking to Zee Media, Root said, “I mean obviously there are some wonderful players currently playing but look at what Sachin has achieved, it’s just remarkable really, the longevity, the ability to be such a high-performing player at such a young age, and then to be able to sustain and to keep developing and moving forward in the game.”
He further added, “There have been times when he’s carried the weight of the pressure on his shoulders, and he did it for over 20 years. He made his debut before I was born and played in my debut, and it just shows how and what he was for Indian cricket for such a long period of time. Truly great at the game, someone that you know, along with many others that I was admiring as a kid, how easy it looked, and not only has he contributed to Indian cricket but also to world cricket. So yeah, definitely a standout for me as a kid growing.”
