The Board of Control for Cricket in India fined the captain of Kolkata Knight Riders Shreya rupees 1200000 after his team was found guilty of maintaining a slow over rate in the Indian Premier League season 2024 match against Rajasthan Royals at the Eden Garden in Kolkata on Tuesday. Overrate offenses fall under the ideal code of conduct, and the captain of the 13 has to bear the punishment for the first offense.
On Wednesday, BCCI said that the captain of Kolkata Knight Riders, Shreyas Iyer, has been fined after his team maintained a slow over during the Indian Premier League match against Rajasthan Royals on April 17 at Eden Gardens.
The statement further read, “As it was the first offense of his team of the ongoing season under the IPL code of conduct relating to the minimum overrate of fences, he was fined Rs 12 lakh.”
Kolkata Knight Riders had managed with a fielderless in the deep in the last over because of their slow over rate, which may have caused the match. Rajasthan Royals won the match in the last ball as England player Jos Buttler hit the winning runs.
Buttler stayed unbeaten as he scored 107 runs in 60 balls while fighting his way through a slow start and rapidly rising asking rate to be there till the end for his team.
Rajasthan Royals pulled off the joint highest chase in the history of the Indian Premier League to strengthen their position at the top of the table. KKR were in the top for the majority of the match, with Rajasthan needing 96 runs in the last 6 overs. But Jos Buttler from the Rajasthan Royals did something amazing to snatch the victory from KKR.
The white ball captain of the England cricket team, who missed the last match of the Rajasthan Royals because of an injury, played an impact substitute in Tuesday’s game and proved to be the deciding factor as he hit nine boundaries and six sixes.
Even the captain of the KKR agreed that it was a bitter pill to swallow. In the post-match interview, he said that he did not think that the team would get into this situation. It is a funny game. At the end of the day, they have to accept their defeat and move on. At this point in time, all you can do is give your best with the ball, but a little bit of a hit or miss can send you off the ground. It is good that this happens now in the early stages rather than happening in the latest stages of the tournament, so it is good learning for all of us.
