Team India is on the cusp of another important bilateral affair against Sri Lanka back home as they will try and test out their best squad ahead of the upcoming World Cup in 2023 that will be another massive litmus test for the Men in Blue after almost a decade of slipping out in the knock-out stages.
As BCCI announced India’s squad for the upcoming series, Rishabh Pant missed out on both the ODIs and T20Is, a shocker after a disappointing 2022, especially in the shorter format of the game. With this decision coming ahead of the year where India will be taking the yard with the hope of redemption can be a jolt to his aspirations.
However, Sri Lankan legend, Kumara Sangakkara believes that it is a minor setback that Pant is going through at the moment and with a few adjustments, he can back to his phenomenal self. Ahead of India’s big series with their neighbours, the former Sri Lankan captain had an important word of advice for India’s hard-hitting southpaw.
Sangakkara said, “Pant needs to work on his keeping. I think for one, Rishabh Pant can improve his wicketkeeping quite a bit. A lot of people only concentrate on his batting, and it is combination of two that increases confidence.”
He further added, “I know it is hard and boring but he can really become good by concentrating on smaller moments and that in turn will help him in white ball cricket, and then he will become the keeper he is expected to become.”
The former Sri Lankan wicket-keeper also added that Pant’s batting is simply undergoing a minor slump but that doesn’t deny the fact that the Delhi Capitals skipper is actually a star of the sport. He concluded, “In his batting, I have got no doubt that he has got all the shots, ability and talent, but it is about understanding how you build an innings in T20 cricket, knowing which bowlers to attack and be a little smart.”
However, Rishabh Pant will now have to wait for a while before he can get back to the yard in all his stride after being involved in a massive accident that happened today morning. As announced by BCCI his condition is stable but that thankfully none of the injuries are critical enough.
