Chennai Super Kings had another rude awakening last night when they were bettered by the defending champions in a cracker of a contest where Rashid Khan took the game away from their counterparts in all possible fashion, being instrumental with the ball and the bat.
He first came forth with a stunning display when he was rolling his arms, bagging the all-important scalps of Ben Stokes and Moeen Ali, particularly when the latter started looking dangerous after an early blow from Mohammed Shami. However, once Rashid Khan had applied the brakes, it was somewhat easy pickings for the Titans as they continuously threw in one spanner after the other in the mix.
Here is how Gujarat Titans chased down the total against CSK
When Gujarat came out to bat, their top-order fired well and riding high on the broad shoulders of Shubman Gill, the Titans sailed nice and fine, pushing back the Chennai Super Kings one step at a time. Towards the end of the game, just when it felt that Chennai had an outright chance of pulling things back, Rashid Khan stepped up to the task and got the job more than done for the Yellow Army.
People were quick to point out MS Dhoni’s mistake while trying to arrange the field that somehow left the Titans in a spot of cruising ahead while there were frowns upon the faces of the Yellow Army. Former Indian opener, Virender Sehwag did not hold back as he splashed and smashed his way through the critics to point out where did Dhoni go wrong.
This is what Virender Sehwag had to say about MS Dhoni
Sehwag said, “Had Dhoni used an over from Moeen Ali somewhere in the middle, he may not have needed to go to Tushar Deshpande, who was highly expensive. You don’t expect MS Dhoni making such mistakes often, but that’s where you could use the risk-and-reward approach of using an off-spinner when right-handers are batting”. He further added, “I was surprised when they gave the impact substitute Tushar Deshpande the new ball. In domestic cricket, he often bowls in the latter phases of the game. I thought maybe they could have given Rajvardhan Hangargekar the new ball.”
