Once again, Royal Challengers Bengaluru can pretty much kiss their IPL play-off chances goodbye. Although mathematically they are still in the race, having lost six matches out of the seven matches they have played till now, there are a number of teams that have almost sealed their place in the top 4. RCB find themselves in the middle of an abysmul slump as things are going bad to worse for them when the sun rises. Hyderabad scored 287 runs against them, breaking their own highest total record in the history of the IPL.
In the middle of all these, Virat Kohli seems stuck presently as the holder of the orange cap, with 361 runs to his name following a 40-run run in 22 balls at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. It looks like he is the lone warrior for his team, even as the franchise continues to nose dive. On Monday, Sunrisers Hyderabad inflicted carnage on RCB, and although Kohli was not bowling, he could feel the wrath of Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, and Heinrich Klassen during the match.
During the match, Kohli could be seen going through a range of emotions, from kicking the turf to yelling at his teammates, which is coming out of the pure frustration of watching his bowlers get carted to all parts of the ground. His face spotted all kinds of expressions, including pain, disgust, disappointment, and sorrow, as RCB lost the game by 25 runs. Like always, Virat Kohli made an honest attempt to achieve the impossible. He went for boundary hunting from ball one and managed to give Royal Challengers Bangalore a flying start along with his partner Faf du Plessis. They scored 79 runs in the power play, despite the fact that the asking rate was 15 runs, and Kohli needed to keep going.
Although they have never won any IPL titles, Kohli is the only constant player for RCB in its 16-year history. He is the highest run scorer in the history of the Indian Premier League, as he holds the record for the most centuries. He has scored 973 runs in 2016, but his team has never won the IPL title.
