During his coaching days for the Indian cricket team, Ravi Shastri has led the force to two historic triumphs against Australia in the latter’s backyard and India somehow managed to come back from the very jaws of defeat in both the series to turn the tide around.
If there is one man who knows how to tackle the Australian challenge, it whole-heartedly has to be Ravi Shastri. In fact, such was his might that the team battled through injuries and absences before they could come looking for the prize and eventually, they were successful in lifting the hallowed silverwares.
With the India-Australia series about to kickstart, a night’s sleep from now, Ravi Shastri believes that India should be eyeing a whitewash of the Aussies in the upcoming series. In a media interaction, he highlighted India’s strengths and what makes them unbeatable against the mighty Australians.
Talking on the ICC Review Show, Shastri said, “India should look to win 4-0, we’re playing at home. I’m brutal. I’ve been to two tours of Australia, I know what’s happened.” He knows his facts as he has previously led the Indian team against a full-blown Aussie unit that saw the latter being tamed in some way or the other.
He further added, “My mindset would be, ‘How can I beat Australia 4-0 if I’m the coach’, which means day one, I want a ball to pitch on leg stump and hit off stump. I want it to rip. If someone asks me what kind of pitch? Expect that. If you lose the toss, expect the ball to turn in the first session of play. That’s what I want, and take it from there.”
If things go according to plan, India and Australia are the two front-runners to fight for the Mace in the WTC final that is slated to be played later at the Oval in June 2023.
