The captain of Indian cricket team Rohit Sharma has denied attending any meeting with the chairman selector of BCCI, Ajit Agarkar, along with coach Rahul Dravid for deciding the road map for the T20 World Cup. A few days ago, a leading Indian news daily reported that Rohit Dravid and their color caught up in Mumbai for a two-hour-long meeting where the two primary topics of discussion were whether Hardik Pandya needed to bowl more regularly in order to guarantee his place in the T20 World Cup squad of team India and whether Virat Kohli needs to open with captain Rohit Sharma in the playing 11 or not.
However, the captain of Team India dismissed these reports and called them fake news, revealing that he has not met with anyone and also cautioning the public against believing anything that is not directly coming from him, Agarkar Dravid, or BCCI.
On the Club Prairie Fire Podcast, captain Rohit Sharma told Michael Vaughan and Adam Gilchrist that “he has not met anyone as Ajay Devgan is present in Dubai playing golf and Rahul Dravid is actually watching his kids playing in Bengaluru.”
He said Dravid was in Mumbai, but he got his son to play on a red-sand wicket at CCI. We have not met, and I think in today’s era, unless or until you hear it from either myself, Rahul, Ajit, or someone from BCCI talking in front of the camera, everything is fake.
It is expected that the BCCI is going to reveal the T20 World Cup squad of team India sometime during the first week of my stay, for every game of the Indian Premier League becomes important given there are simply a number of contenders for limited positions. Also a month ago, there were doubts regarding the place of Kohli in the 15 with a report saying that he may just fall behind in the packing order with the youngsters Rinku Singh and Yashasvi Jaiswal taking priority.
Virat Kohli himself indirectly reacted to it, as after playing a match-winning knock against the Pakistan Kings in the Indian Premier League, he told the broadcaster that he thinks he still has it. However, with time, the position of Kohli seems clear, and he is going to feature for India in the West Indies and USA.
As for Hardik, the all-rounder has been in the news for all the wrong reasons, both because he has not been affected by the fans and also because he is refraining from bowling in a couple of matches. But how Hardik had led team India in T20 in the past while Rohit and Kohli took a break from the format, Pandey should be a sure-shot starter in India’s playing 11.
