In Match 48 of IPL 2023, Rajasthan Royals faced a nine-wicket defeat against Gujarat Titans in Jaipur on Friday. GT managed to chase down a total of 119 runs, reaching 119/1 in just 13.5 overs.
Wriddhiman Saha played a brilliant innings, smashing an unbeaten 41 runs off 34 balls, while skipper Hardik Pandya scored an unbeaten 39 off just 15 deliveries. RR bowlers had a tough time as Yuzvendra Chahal was the only one to claim a wicket.

Sanju Samson, RR captain, won the toss and opted to bat first. However, their batting line-up crumbled, and they were dismissed for 118 runs in 17.5 overs. Samson was the only notable batter, scoring 30 runs off 20 balls. GT’s Rashid Khan was in top form with the ball, taking three wickets. Meanwhile, Noor Ahmad picked up two wickets for the visitors.

Shaun Pollock, the former South African cricketer, expressed his surprise at the tactics used by Rajasthan Royals skipper Sanju Samson during their IPL 2023 match against Gujarat Titans. Pollock claimed on Cricbuzz that he was particularly taken aback by Samson’s usage of spinners. “I was a little bit surprised by some of the tactics employed there. After 1-2 overs, you realized that it wasn’t really swinging. So, they were late to get to the spinners to look if maybe if they could have had an impact, was a little bit of a surprise”, he explained.

Pollock further stated that the ease with which Gujarat Titans attained the target demonstrated that Rajasthan Royals just had a batting meltdown. The former South African captain made it clear that there were no demons on the track. The Royals had a meek submission following which Gujarat Titans made easy work of the target. Following their victory, Gujarat Titans remained at the top of the IPL 2023 points table with 14 points from 10 games. Meanwhile, Rajasthan Royals have slipped to fourth place, having accumulated 10 points from 10 matches.
