The former captain of the Sri Lanka cricket team, Lahiru Thirimanne, was hospitalized after he got involved in a dangerous car accident in Anuradhapura in Sri Lanka on Thursday. Lahiru was traveling in his car, which got into a serious collision, and then he was taken to The teaching hospital of Anuradhapura. Although the exact nature of his injury is still unknown, his condition has recently been stable. A number of reports claim that at least one more passenger was present in the car with Thirimanne, and the fellow passenger is also receiving treatment in the hospital.
Currently in the legend cricket Thirimanne was playing for New York strikers, and the franchise has also released an official statement regarding the accident he has suffered. They have said that they want to inform us that Lahiru Thirimanne and his family were involved in a minor car accident while visiting the temple. For further observation all of them have been admitted to the hospital for observation.
The statement stated, “Fortunately, after the thorough medical examination, we can confirm they are all safe and sound, and there is no need to worry. We also appreciate the concern and support from the people worldwide during this tough time, and we kindly request respect for their privacy as they recover.”

According to the report, Thirimanne went to the temple when the accident happened. The car collided with a lorry coming from the other side, and the damage was severe in the accident.
Thirimanne had played 44 test matches for Sri Lanka along with 127 ODI and 26 T20Is during his career. He was also part of three T20 World Cup campaigns, including the winning campaign of the 2014 edition. He retired in July 2023.
The retirement post of Thirimanne read, “As a player, I have given my best and have also given my best. I have respected the game and done my duty honestly and ethically to my nation.
He also said that although the decision was not easy to take and he can’t reveal all the reasons but i am taking this opportunity to thank all the members of SLC including my coaches and supporting staff for their immense support and encouragement.”
