Although many of the former cricketers and experts are including the name of Ravindra Jadeja in their preferred 15-member squad for team India in the upcoming T20 World Cup, a few of the former players have raised a headache for the chief selector of BCCI, Ajit Agarkar, who is ready to announce the squad for team India won Wednesday. They have reached a question over the suitability of Ravindra Jadeja at the number 7 spot in the batting line-up for team India in the middle of his poor run of form in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League, saying that the team needs a batsman who has a better strike rate at that position.
Former cricketer of Australia cricket team Tom Moody is among the first to say out the concern in the middle of the reports that Agarkar met the captain of Indian cricket team Rohit Sharma on Sunday in New Delhi on the sidelines of the ongoing season of IPL 2024. He said that the strike rate of Jadeja is 131.93 in IPL season 2024, which is not good enough for him to take the spot of the finisher in the playing 11 for team India.
While talking with Star Sports, he said I would be taking Jadeja purely because I am looking for the best left arm spinning options and he is one of the best left hand spinners in the country. In my playing 11, he is not going to bed at number 7. I don’t think he is good enough to be bad at number 7 in the T20 World Cup squad. He has proven that with his strike rate because we need an impact type player to be bad at 7.
Part of the same panel for my cricketer of team India, Irfan Pathan, admitted that he is also quite worried about the batting numbers of Jadeja; in fact, the strike rate is exactly the same for the cxk in India colors since 2022, where he has scored 141 runs in 7 innings at part number 6 or 7.
He said that this is what he is really worried about when it comes to the World Cup. His worry is with the T20 World Cup because they are pretty much sorted with the top order and middle order, but if we are thinking about Ravindra Jadeja at number 7, we need a good finisher.
But the former selector of BCCI, Kris Srikanth, has identified Ravinder Jadeja as a first-choice spin bowling all-rounder, despite labeling his competitor Axar Patel as a match winner because of his sheet experience in international cricket.
