The captain of the Gujarat Titans, Shubman Gill, has been fined Rs 24 lakh for maintaining a slow over rate during the Indian Premier League match against the Chennai Super Kings. It was his team’s second over rate of the season, and subsequently, the members of the team, including the impact player, were individually fined either Rs 6 lakhs or 25% of their respective matches, whichever is less. On Friday, the Gujarat Titans defeated defending champion Chennai Super Kings by 35 runs to stay alive in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League.
Both Gill and Sudarshan scored centuries while guiding their team, the Gujarat Titans, to a total of 231 runs at the loss of 3 wickets before restricting the Chennai Super Kings to 196 at the loss of 8 wickets. The Gujarat Titans are now in 8th place on the points table with 10 points from 12 matches, and the Chennai Super Kings held on to their 4th place despite the defeat against the Gujarat Titans with 12 points from as many games.
Gill, who had scored 104 runs in 55 balls, shared an opening partnership of 210 runs with fellow centurion B Sai Sudarshan, who scored 103 runs in 51 balls, and helped the Gujarat Titans to a total of 2:31 runs at the loss of 3 wickets, which could have easily bleached the 260 mark.
In the end, the Chennai Super Kings scored only 196 runs, and the net run rate of the Gujarat Titans improved to -1.063. They have 10 points from 12 matches with a maximum chance of getting up to 14, which might not be enough for the qualification for the playoffs.
At the post-match presentation, Gill said, “Honestly, at one point, 250 was for the taking, and we fell short. In the last 2 to 3 overs, they were bowling really well. I thought we were 10 to 15 runs short, not in terms of the match but in terms of the net run rate.”
During the chase of Chennai, he left the field early as Rahul Tewatia led the side, but he assured one and all that it was mere cramps.
Gill said, “It was just a cramp, nothing more.”
Why talking about his opening partnership of 210 runs with Sudarshan gills at that he loves the freedom with which day executed they are shots gill hit six sixes whereas Sudarshan had one more to his credit.
Gill said, “We loved the freedom of the partnership with Sudarshan; we did not have any targets in mind. We maximized every opportunity in front of us. We have a good camaraderie between us; we run the twos; we understand each other very well; and in terms of numbers, definitely it is our best opening partnership.”
