Before the next Indian Premier League 2024 match of MI against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru they are set to receive a much-needed boost, and it goes by the name of Suryakumar Yadav. Yes, the star T20 batter is going to link up with the struggling MI after getting clearance by the National Cricket Academy, multiple reports claim. The reunion of Suryakumar’s with the MI couldn’t have come at a more opportune time for the franchise, which is currently looking for an upswing in the middle of three straight defeats in the IPL.
The star batsman of MI last played competitive cricket in December but was forced out of action after twisting his ankle during a game against South Africa. Due to a surgery for a sports hernia that took place in January, his return was further delayed. After the surgery, Surya went to the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru and ever since he has been undergoing intense rehabilitation. Surya picked up a grade 2 tear in his ankle. Initially he was in some discomfort but eventually received a green signal by the NCA.
As per the statement of the news agency, the star batsman has cleared all but one routine test, which is necessary to get an RTP certificate from the NCA. On Thursday, there is one more test left to be conducted, after which a clearer picture would come out. He is batting comfortably and has also done all simulations.”
MI, who are in the middle of another early slump, have registered a hat-trick of defeats under the leadership of Hardik Pandya to be placed at the bottom of the IPL points table.
According to the reports, with a six-day gap between their game against the Rajasthan Royals on Monday and the one against the Delhi Capitals on Sunday, the team apparently went to Jamnagar for a short break. They are going to be back in training on Thursday, and Surya is expected to be part of it.
Suryakumar is going to be part of MI’s playing XI against the Capitals. As of now, he is a guaranteed starter, but plans can change depending on the shape of Surya in the nets. If there’s no ring-rust, then we can expect Surya to break into the XI just like that, but just in case he doesn’t pull up the way the team management wants him to, his return may have to wait for another four days when MI take on the Royal Challengers Bengaluru next Thursday.
