Virat Kohli Talks About His Nostalgic Journey With Rahul Dravid: For only the second time in history, Team India is set to grace the field at Windsor Park in Dominica. This return marks 12 years since their first match against the West Indies at this venue, a game that ended in a stalemate. As hosts, the West Indies welcome the Indian team for the first Test of a two-match series, beginning on Wednesday.
The spotlight shines brightly on the star batter Virat Kohli, the only survivor from the Indian side that toured the Caribbean in 2011. Notably, it was at this same venue that Kohli made his Test debut. Even though he had already made a name for himself in 50-over cricket, he was yet to represent India in Test whites.
Fast forward to 12 years later, Kohli is now gearing up for his 110th Test match. Interestingly, the watchful eyes of India’s head coach Rahul Dravid, who was Kohli’s teammate during his debut, will be upon him.
In a video uploaded by BCCI, Kohli reflected on his 12-year Test journey. He shared his sentiments about returning to the place where it all started and his intriguing conversation with Dravid, the seasoned player he once looked up to.
“When we went to the dressing room and then practice, I remembered my first series here as a Test player… the Caribbean,” Kohli recounted. “It’s amazing to come back here 12 years later, having played over 100 Test matches. I told Rahul bhai yesterday that ‘I’m sure you never imagined we’d come back to the same venue, and you’d be the head coach, and I’d have played 100 games’. It’s like life has come full circle. Our journeys have been quite amazing,” he concluded.

Team India, led by captain Rohit Sharma, is poised to start a new journey following their World Test Championship (WTC) final heartbreak last month. On the eve of the first Test, Sharma disclosed that young batter Yashasvi Jaiswal will open the Indian innings in the Test series against the West Indies. This decision comes after Shubman Gill, Sharma’s opening partner since his Test debut in 2021 against Australia, expressed his desire to bat at number three on a long-term basis.
As anticipation builds for the upcoming Test, both teams look forward to giving their best on the field. The Indian team, in particular, will be looking to create memorable moments, just like they did 12 years ago. This Test match will serve as a critical point in their journey, both as individual players and as a team. With changes in the batting lineup and Kohli’s reflective mindset, the stage is set for an intense battle against the West Indies.
