Indian cricketer KL Rahul was disappointed with himself after hitting a match-winning six during India’s World Cup 2023 opener against the Australian national cricket team. The right-handed batsman rose to the occasion and delivered the goods when it really mattered the most in the wake of India’s top-order collapse.
The likes of Ishan Kishan, Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer failed to up the ante as they had a bad day at the office, getting dismissed for a duck. It was also the first time in the history of Indian cricket that three of India’s top-order players got out without scoring a run, in what was an unwanted record.
Despite being under immense pressure, Team India recovered quickly with the help of KL Rahul and Virat Kohli’s match-winning 165-run partnership for the fourth wicket. This was more than enough to set the tone for India as the Men in Blue got the better of the Men in Yellow by six wickets at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

KL Rahul disappointed after smashing a match-winning six against Australia
When KL Rahul was batting on 91, Team India were en route to winning the game as the team required just five runs to seal the deal. However, KL Rahul was aiming for a century and he needed to score a four and a six to achieve the feat but his calculation came to haunt him as he hit a six superbly and remained not out on 97*.

“I hit it too well. I wanted to get a hundred by going four and six. Hopefully, some other time I can get it,” KL Rahul added during the post-match presentation ceremony after receiving the Man of the Match award.
