Team India are locking horns with the Sri Lankan cricket team in the ongoing edition of the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023 tournament at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. It is a famous venue as India beat Sri Lanka in the 2011 World Cup final to win their second ODI World Cup honour.
Case in point, Sri Lankan captain Kusal Mendis won the toss and opted to bowl first. Team India were in a spot of bother after they lost their captain Rohit Sharma for just 4 runs in the second ball of the first over. Nevertheless, the likes of Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill took the game away from Sri Lanka with an 189-run stand.
Shubman Gill who was batting on 92 tried to hit a boundary off Dilshan Madushanka’s ball but ended up hitting the ball behind the stumps as Kusal Mendis took a catch. Shubman Gill missed his century by eight runs and had he been careful, he would have accomplished the milestone but that wasn’t meant to be the case.
