Afghanistan cricket team pulled off a stellar win over the England cricket team in the group stage fixture of the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023 tournament. The Afghans gave the Three Lions a run for their money as they fired all cylinders superbly to seal the deal at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
The defending champions hardly showcased their mettle on the field whereas the Afghans played the game with a lot of intent and rightly so, they earned a much-needed win over England to open their account in this edition’s World Cup. Batting first, Afghanistan posted 284 runs on the board, in what was enough for them to defend.
England have firepower in their batting arsenal but they couldn’t turn up the ante when it mattered the most. In the end, they were bowled out for 215 and ended up losing the game by 69 runs. After the game, Indian commentator, Ravi Shastri dropped a special tweet for Afghanistan.

Former India’s head coach took to his X social media handle and then posted a picture of Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Rashid Khan hugging each other. Besides that, he attached a caption praising Afghanistan for pulling off the biggest upset in the World Cup, if not in the history of the game.
“Salute you AFGHANISTAN. You have pulled off the biggest upset in WC cricket. If not in the history of the game. Respect,” Ravi Shastri tweeted in which he also tagged Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Rashid Khan. Ravi Shastri’s tweet went viral in no time on social media.

Afghanistan might have lost to Bangladesh and Team India in their first two games but they got their tactics spot on against England. They will take on the New Zealand cricket team on October 18, Wednesday at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.
