Ravi Shastri believes Shubman Gill should play the third Test against Australia.

Ravi Shastri, the head coach and former all-rounder for India, believes it is past due for Shubman Gill to take KL Rahul's spot in the Test playing XI.

Despite being in terrific form, the young player was only able to sit on the bench for the first two Tests of the current Border-Gavaskar Trophy series.

Rahul's recent streak of bad performances has infuriated both fans and commentators.

The last nail in the coffin for the wicket-keeper batter's Test career appears to be the removal of him from his vice-captaincy position.

Shastri asserted that Gill should have a chance to be included in the starting lineup for the forthcoming third Test against Australia.

When he scored his first Test century on the tour of Bangladesh in December 2022, he also made a significant statement.

He (Gill) is that talented right now, and whether he scores or not, on form or merit, he deserves a shot.

When you have a player so confident, and then his recent results and the way he's batted - a lot of guys on that squad will be wondering, 'How is this guy not playing?
