When Steve Smith led Australia in an ODI in India the last time, what happened?

Steve Smith will continue to lead Australia on its tour of India, with the first one-day international scheduled to take place at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on March 17.

Pat Cummins experienced a personal sorrow when his mother passed away during the fourth Test in Ahmedabad.

After the second Test in Delhi, he went to Australia to care for his mother.

Since then, Smith has served as captain, and Australia have arguably appeared to be a whole different team.

The visitors proved they were not just pushovers by winning the third Test in Indore and drawing the fourth Test in Ahmedabad.

Although the Sandpapergate scandal has somewhat tainted Smith's reputation, he has proven to be a very aggressive captain, which makes the ODI series even more intriguing.
