West Indies won the series’ second and one of the most exciting Test matches against Australia at The Gabba on Sunday. Australia dominated the visitors on the initial days of the match, but the outstanding performance from the bowling department of West Indies snatched the game from the hands of the Aussies.
Shamar Joseph’s exceptional performance with the bowl
Shamar Joesph took seven wickets in the second inning when Australia were chasing a target of 216 runs. The total score on the board was not that challenging for the home side, but the outstanding bowling knock from Joseph broke the backbone of the opponents and played the role of the most crucial player for his side in the test match.
He delivered just 11.5 overs in the innings and picked up seven wickets at an economy rate of 5.75. Alzarri Joseph also picked up two wickets, while Justin Greaves dismissed the top-order batter, Marnus Labuschagne, when the total score of the side was just 42 runs.
Steve Smith stayed on the crease till the end
The wickets were continuously falling from one end, but Steve Smith kept fighting till the end and played an impressive innings of 91* runs in 146 deliveries with a strike rate of 62.33, including 10 boundaries. He opened the innings with Usman Khawaja and remained not out on the crease until the last wicket fell. Smith could not get support from any batter on the other end, which was a big factor in Australia’s defeat.
Australia lagged by just 8 runs
The most disappointing factor for the Australian side was that the target was just 8 runs away when they lost their last wicket. Since Steve Smith was there on the crease, everyone was hoping that he’d be able to take Australia to the required total, but the wickets kept falling from one end, and eventually, the West Indies emerged victorious at the end.
West Indies levels the series by 1-1
With a magnificent victory in the second Test match, the West Indies have successfully tied the 2-game series with 1-1. Australia were the winners of the first Test match of the series as they triumphed over the visitors by 10 wickets. West Indies have also taken revenge successfully by defeating the opponents that too with a very close margin of 8 runs.
