India’s right-arm fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been away from cricketing action for close to eleven months due to an injury that prevented him from taking part in marquee clashes including the ICC T20 World Cup, Asia Cup 2022 and the ICC WTC 2023 final against Australia.
Team India badly missed his valuable services from the bowling department for a long time now. However, Bumrah made a stellar rebound in the Asia Cup 2023 tournament. India defeated Sri Lanka in the final to lift their eighth Asia Cup honour under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma.
Jasprit Bumrah who is part of the ongoing edition of the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023 has been in surreal form so far, taking eight wickets in 3 games. He took 2 wickets against Australia and then bagged 4 wickets against Afghanistan before taking two wickets against Pakistan.

I wanted to do the difficult job: Jasprit Bumrah
In the process, he became the joint-leading wicket-taker in the ongoing World Cup 2023. While speaking to the apex cricket body, ICC, he opened up on relishing pressure in the marquee event. He echoed that he always wanted to do the difficult job for India to make the team win in the first place.
As a result, he doesn’t see it as a burden or pressure but instead, he sees it as an opportunity to express himself on the field. He further added that he learnt a lot over the years and he tried to use his experience in the best way possible.
“I don’t really look at it as pressure or responsibility because as a child I wanted to be a cricketer. I wanted to play for India. I wanted to do the difficult job. I wanted to make my team win. So that is what I’m doing.”
“I’ve learned a lot over the years. I tried to use my experience, I’ve played a lot in this country. So you use my experience and try to help the team as much as you can because if you think about pressure and expectation and responsibility, you won’t be able to perform with that baggage of expectation,” Bumrah added in a statement.
