The Royal Challengers Bangalore swarmed over the Rajasthan Royals in a clinical display at the Chinnaswamy on Sunday, as they prised out their fourth win of the tournament after a topsy-turvy encounter between two age-old rivals.
Defending 189, RCB had to rely on their strike bowlers to get the job done and with Mohammed Siraj providing them the key breakthrough of Jos Buttler early in the innings, it was Harshal Patel who would register his best figures of IPL 2023, crippling RR in a long-haul chase. Harshal would go onto finish the game with numbers of 3 for 32 from 4 overs and most importantly would set up the final over perfectly to snatch a victory from a pretty tense situation.
Harshal Patel explains the difference between an old and a new ball
Talking in the game-day video of RCB, Harshal explained the tricks of his trade and how he felt at home bowling towards the toe-end of the innings. Explaining his tactics, Harshal said, “When the ball gets old, the shine wears off, the ball tends to get a little bit softer. That is when it becomes harder for them to score boundaries.”

He further added, “So we keep ourselves in the game and try and put as much pressure as we can on them, trying to bowl the good balls and magical things can happen. That was the conversation. I think we executed them really well.
This is what Harshal Patel had to say about his passion in that final over against the Rajasthan Royals
Shedding some light about that crucial final over, Harshal Patel said, “If I was not nervous, I will be worried. I was definitely nervous. The nervous energy is very necessary to switch you on allow you to really focus and have that tunnel vision. Hence, I would be worried if I was not nervous.”
Harshal Patel will once again be in action today against the Kolkata Knight Riders as the Purple and Gold brigade hopes to bring out the best in Chinnaswamy against a high-flying Royal Challengers Bangalore.
