Australian batting coach Michael di Venuto quipped that opener David Warner is keen to play a few more Ashes series in the wake of rival Stuart Broad’s retirement. The main point is that although David Warner has been positive about his footwork, poor shot selection has cost him wickets a number of times in the Ashes Test 2023. Stuart Broad has dismissed David Warner 17 times in Test cricket, including both innings of the Headingley Test. Amid questions over David Warner’s Test future, the English Fast bowler announced his retirement from professional cricket after the third day of the ongoing Test at The Oval. Rain washed out half of the fourth day’s play on Sunday 30, 2023 but, Australia made a good target of 384 runs with the help of their openers. Usman Khawaja made 69 runs in 130 balls and David Warner made 58 runs in 99 balls putting on an unbroken 135 runs in 38 overs before further play was stopped due to rain.
Praising Warner’s handling of the pressure, Di Venuto cheekily said;
“I think he’s pretty keen to go on for a few more Ashes series now [hinting at Broad’s retirement].” He went on to add, “On this tour he has looked to be positive most of the time on his feet. We have seen plenty of energy out of the crease. He has made some really good starts, and just generally made a poor decision when he has been dismissed.
“The way he has been playing, it has been a little out of character when he has been dismissed. So far in this innings he has looked really good, made some good decisions, and played really nicely,” the Australian coach asserted.
Di Venuto also said;
“They have put some starts together through the series. To get a 100-run start when we are chasing 380 was an outstanding effort,” the 49-year-old said.

Usman Khawaja hit eight fours in 130 balls, while Warner hit nine fours in 99 balls.

When Australia Was Set a Target of 384 Runs, Michael Di Venuto Said,-We Are All Very Keen to Score Runs.
Australia has not won an Ashes series in England for more than two decades but Micheal Di Venuto is confident the tourists can pull it off his time.
“There are a lot of guys who have been on Ashes series over here in the past and haven’t managed to win. Twenty years is a long time. We’re in a great position for some of the boys to get that on their resume. We’re all pretty keen to score those runs tomorrow [Monday]. This morning when we got our target we knew we had a long time to bat to score those runs,”
Asked to judge the condition on the fourth data, the Australian coach replied that the wickets were very good to bat on, which helped him.
“Conditions had a lot to do with it today. It’s a very good batting wicket out there. Absolutely a little swing and seam at times, but generally really good batting conditions. We saw a little bit of spin out of the rough to the left-handers but you would expect that,” di Venuto quipped.
