The Board of Control for Cricket in India took action against the batsman of Mumbai Indians, Tim David, and their batting coach, Kieron Pollard, after both of them were found guilty of breaching the IPL code of conduct during the match of their team against the Punjab Kings in Mullanpur on Thursday.
BCCI said that the batsman of Mumbai Indians Tim David and batting coach Kieron Pollard have been fined for breaching the IPL code of conduct during the Indian Premier League match of their team against Punjab Kings at the PCA new international cricket stadium in Mullanpur on April 18.
BCCI stated that the offense committed by both David and Pollard was a Level 1 breach under Article 2.20 of the IPL Code of Conduct, and now both of them have to pay 20% of their match fees after they accept the sanction.
As the statement read, a level 1 offense was committed by David and Pollard under Article 2.20 of the IPL code of conduct, and both of them were fined 20% of their respective match fees. They have admitted to the offense and accepted the sanction of the match referee.”
Although not many details about the nature of the offense were shared by the board, it was clear that it had to do with the signals both David and Pollard gave to the batsmen of Mumbai Indian Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma to review a wide call in the 15th over of the match.
In 15th over When the fast bowler of the Punjab Kings, Arshdeep Singh, bowled a Yorker, and Surya Kumar failed to make any contact after this, the umpire decided not to give it as wide. The camera shifted the attention to the dugout of the Mumbai Indians, where head coach Mark Boucher was seen giving some signals to Surya Kumar Yadav that the ball was wide. Tim David, along with the batting coach of the team, Kieron Pollard, was also seen asking the batsman to take a review by making the tea sign using his hands.
Surya Kumar went for the review, and even after the disagreement of the stand-in captain of the Punjab Kings, Sam Curran, it was allowed. The third umpire decided to change the decision and gave it a wide. Arshdeep had to make an extra delivery to complete the 15th over, which went for a boundary.
