Rohit Sharma has been in fine touch and his recent form against New Zealand was a burning testimony to why he should be leading the Indian team. However, in an alarming development, Rohit has already been kept posted about the fact that there is a change in the pipeline and that will be impacted keeping India’s future in mind.
Hardik Pandya is being deemed as the next captain for India in the shortest format of the game. He is currently being groomed for the role and has so far done a phenomenal job. He will also be leading India against New Zealand in the upcoming T20I series that starts from Friday.
On the eve of the series opener, India had a special interaction with former skipper, MS Dhoni who had a boatload of advice for the Indian cricket team. Pandya opened up on that deliberation to the reporters who attended the press meet, also highlighting why this was a very special rendezvous for the Indian youngsters who are being shouldered with the charge of leading the Indian unit from the front for the forthcoming days.
Pandya told the reporters in Ranchi, “Mahi bhai is here which is good as we get to meet him. We can get out of the hotel also (to meet him). Otherwise, the way we have played in the last one month, it has just been hotel to hotel. And when we meet we try to talk about life rather than the game. When we played together I learned a lot from him. I have squeezed a lot out of him (knowledge), there is not much left.”
In fact, Hardik Pandya was also the vice-captain of the Indian cricket team that inflicted a mortifying whitewash upon the hapless Kiwis in the recently concluded ODI series. He also played a very special knock in the series finale, propelling India to a mammoth score in the first innings.
