Former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan was vocal at length about the Indian skipper’s abilities as the Men in Blue managed to clinch the number one spot in the ODI under the leadership of Rohit Sharma. Just when Rohit Sharma was being questioned vehemently, yet somehow the dashing show that he managed to pile up last night remained like a lesson and answer to all his critiques.
While Rohit Sharma battered his first ODI ton in the last three years at the Holkar Cricket Stadium, Shubman Gill continued with his phenomenal touch inflicting further misery upon the visiting Kiwis. Centuries from Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill helped seal a staggering 90-run win against the Blackcaps.
Talking about Rohit’s 30th ODI ton, Irfan Pathan said, “He has taken full command of the Indian batting since he started opening, either through a good average or with the approach he has changed in the last one to one-and-a-half years – with a good strike rate. So he is continuously contributing. A century has come after three years and 10,000 runs will also come.”
He further added, “He has equalled Ricky Ponting’s 30 ODI centuries. Even in his (Ponting’s) country, he (Rohit) has an average of around 53, which is a huge number, and has scored five hundreds also there. He has an average of 64 in England as well. So he has scored runs everywhere and we have seen him scoring runs in India regularly in any case.”
India will shortly be in action against the Kiwis and this time in the shortest format of the game where the visitors will try and prise out something significant in their wheelhouse. Also considering the fact that India is now undergoing a paradigm shift in their T20 ranks eyeing the next biennial extravaganza.
