Pakistan continued their dominance against Sri Lanka on the third day of the second test in Colombo on Wednesday, July 26, 2023. Their batsmen performed excellent and after three days in the Test gave them a huge lead of 397 runs in their first innings. After rain washed out a few sessions on Tuesday, Pakistan was keen to score big to increase their lead on Wednesday. Pakistan captain Babar Azam was dismissed early in the first session after scoring 39 runs. In the 48th over, Prabhat Jayasuriya got him LBW once again. After Babar’s wicket down, Abdullah Shafiq made 201 runs and Saud Shakeel made 57 runs and made a partnership for 109 runs for the fourth wicket. Asitha Fernando takes 3/133 and separates Shakeel in the 81st over by sending him to the pavilion after completing his half-century.
After this Agha Saman and Abdullah Shafiq strengthened Pakistan’s strong position by sharing a brilliant partnership of 149 runs. Shafiq completed his maiden double-century in the final session before walking back to the pavilion. Rizwan made 32 runs and Agha Salman made 132 runs remained unbeaten at the stumps on the third day, helping Pakistan reach 563/5.

Mohammad Rizwan Comes in As a Concussion Substitute for Sarfaraz Ahmed on Day 3 of The 2nd Pakistan vs Sri Lanka Test
Veteran wicketkeeper-batsman Sarfraz Ahmad suffered a head injury while batting on the third day of the second test against Sri Lanka. The incident happened in the 81st over when a short delivery from Lankan fast bowler Asitha Fernando hit his helmet. He played till the 86th over but he walked out of the park feeling uncomfortable.
PCB’s official statement on the matter read:
“Sarfaraz Ahmed has been replaced by Mohammad Rizwan as a concussion substitute in the ongoing second Test between Pakistan and Sri Lanka at the Singhalese Sports Club after match referee David Boon accepted the Pakistan team management’s request for the substitution.”
The statement continued;
“Sarfaraz was hit on his head while ducking a bouncer by Asitha Fernando in the afternoon session on day three. He remains under the observation of the Pakistan Cricket Board’s medical panel.”
