Delhi Capitals will be hitting the stride again after a poor defeat at the hands of the Lucknow Super Giants as their batters completely rolled themselves into a shell and could never really come out of the shock that they were handed over. One of the big names that was frequently talked about ahead of the IPL was that of Sarfaraz Khan. Unfortunately, all those big talks fizzled away to oblivion.
Delhi has some serious potential in two young batters, one of them being Sarafaraz while the other being Prithvi. Both of them have been kept by the side for their batting flair and if the woes continue for the Capitals, despite a strong show with the bat, then they may have to think about alternatives. With the slip-ups of Sarfaraz, the fans questioned whether the availability of the wicket-keeper was just for his gloves.
The former BCCI president fired the warning shots to Sarfaraz Khan for his batting slip-ups
Sourav Ganguly, who joined the team as a mentor, cleared the air around Sarfaraz’s selection and he spoke loudly enough for the others to hear that Sarfaraz has been chosen to bat in a more predominant fashion that just being a wicket-keeper.
Talking to reporters on Monday, Ganguly said, “Everyone has to learn to play against fast bowling. These batters are good. Shaw has scored runs against genuine pace in the past. It was just one ball that went through him. You have got to give credit to Wood for the way he bowled. It was one of those days where they got out. Even Mitch Marsh, who has played fast bowling all his life, got out early (first ball, to Wood). That happens.”
Here is what Ganguly had to say about the evolution of T20 cricket
He further added, “The game has changed. You look at keepers who can bat. It’s an all-round position. Sarfaraz has kept wicket for Mumbai this season. At this level, obviously the pressure is different. But he has kept in just one match. You can’t pass judgement on him so quickly.”
