Rohit Sharma hasn’t been in the best of shapes in recent times as he has struggled to get off the block. There have been too many questions that have been asked repeatedly and somehow the answers aren’t convincing enough.
From 10 innings Rohit Sharma has just managed to score 184 runs at a strike rate of 126.90 and an average of 18.40. Like Dinesh Karthik, his struggles have been slightly more accentuated as he has failed to get double-digit scores next to his name throughout the tournament, which given the stature of Rohit Sharma in world cricket is shocking, to say the least.
A glance at Rohit Sharma’s numbers
In fact, it isn’t just Rohit Sharma’s questionable numbers in terms of runs but his dwindling run rate and strike rate has been another glaring concern for the Mumbai Indians. Since 2016, the man has been returning numbers of 129 as a strike rate that for a batter like Sharma is deemed as average.
2022 was another woeful year for the Mumbai Indians as they would finish in the bottom position of the points table with just 4 victories. Rohit himself would only score 268 runs from 14 games at an average of 19.14 and would also score those runs at a strike rate of 120.18.
Here is what Virender Sehwag had to say about Rohit Sharma
Virender Sehwag has been highly doubtful of Rohit’s return to form in the IPL and left a scathing remark on the approach of Mumbai Indians particularly when the name of Rohit Sharma is involved. The man is a big hitter for sure and also the Indian captain but then again, there will be times when you have to switch your allegiances to David instead of Goliath.
Sehwag would say, “Rohit Sharma is not battling with the bowlers but with himself. There is a mental block. There’s no problem with his batting technique. Some confusion is going on in his mind. But the day he gets going, we will make up for all the previous matches.”
